1. All sugary or artificially sweetened food and drink

When we consume sugar (and even sometimes artificial sweeteners), our body releases insulin. Not many people think about what insulin actually IS, but let me be the one to tell you, it’s a hormone.

The hormone system in our body (endocrine system) acts like a delicately tuned orchestra and when one musician is playing out of tune, it starts to throw all the other musicians off and the melody becomes a mess! When we consume inappropriate amounts of sugar our insulin spikes, this eventually causes our cortisol to spike. The overproduction of cortisol robs your body of the building blocks they would need to build sex hormones, thus unbalancing your reproductive system.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Blood sugar imbalances cause a whole array of problems in the body from aches and pains to anxiety to diabetes.

Artificial sweeteners are worse. The come with a lot of the above problems but add in the fact that they’re often carcinogens and damage the digestive track, among other things.

REPLACE: Replace sweet drinks with water, or lemon water. Replace sweet foods with small portions of fruits. And remember, sweet cravings can often point to hunger, thirst or protein deficiency. 

2. All expeller pressed, heat treated, hydrogenated, or light-exposed oils

When liquid oils are exposed to heat or light, they become rancid and toxic to the body. Furthermore, absolutely every cell in your body has a large component that is made from fat. If you’re eating toxic rancid fats, your body will still use those fat molecules to make yours and your growing baby’s cells. Rancid fat molecules cause disfunction in your cells activities and flow on to all different kinds of problems.

Any liquid oils that are sold in clear glass bottles should be discarded. Liquid oils such as olive oil should never be cooked with, (it should be used as a dressing). Canola oil, vegetable oil, mustard seed oil, soy bean oil and margarine are all ALWAYS toxic. There is never a scenario where any of these oils are healthy.

REPLACE: Cooking oils should be replaced exclusively with saturated fats. This means organic, ethically sourced, unrefined coconut oil, red palm oil, ghee, butter, lard, tallow, duck fat, and other animal fats. For salads and dressings liquid oils should be purchased only when they are stored in dark glass or tin containers and specified as “cold pressed”

3. Non-pastured, grass fed animal products

When animals are raised without appropriate diet, sunlight and roaming, they give us meat and other products that have unnatural nutrients. They can cause a state of inflammation in our bodies and unbalance our hormones.

Conversely, organic pasture-raised animal products can be extremely nourishing to our reproductive systems and overall health. There is a whole group of fertility-essential vitamins that are impossible or extremely difficult to absorb from vegetable sources (such as Vitamins A, E, K and B Vitamins).

REPLACE: Find an butcher or farmer in your area that provides pastured meats (preferably organic if you can afford it) and ditch the feed-lot meats.
